Workshop with 80 operators / technology centers as Southwest launches social network CACT-Dominican community

On Thursday, April 16 saw the first Meeting-Workshop of the Centers for collective access to ICTs in the Region Enriquillo in the facilities of the South Youth Foundation, in Barahona under the coordination of the Technical Unit of the C National omission Information Society (CNSIC) of the Dominican Republic and the Foundation Taigüey. The meeting is part of the establishment of the National Network and the Dominican Cacts Community , which seeks to enhance the sustainability and social impact of technology centers, through joint capacity building, exchange of experiences, tools and best practices between managers and operators of the technology centers. The same was attended by 80 operators / managers as and / as Community Technology Centers (Cacts) promoted by INDOTEL, Secretary of Education and the Ministry of Youth in the provinces of Pedernales, Bahoruco, Barahona and Independencia.

During the workshop, / as participants discussed and shared views and experiences on the strengths of these centers, and the challenges they face in achieving the social, cultural, economic and technology centers.

During the workshop was put into operation a virtual platform: http://comunidad-cact-dominicanos.taiguey.org /, conceived as a space for exchange and mutual support to support the work of the Dominican Network and promote exchanges between all operators, trainers and operational teams of Cacts. This platform is managed by the Foundation Taigüey.

This workshop is part of the activities being carried out since November 2008, the Technical Unit of the National Commission for Information Society (CNSIC) of the Dominican Republic and Taiguey Foundation within the framework the ACTIVATE project , implemented with the support of Telecentre.org, for the creation of the National Network of Technology Centres Dominicans: Dominican-CACTsS in the country.

In the coming months will continue the workshops to cover other regions of the country: Valdesia Valley and the Cibao and the eastern region, completing the formal integration of over 800 community access to ICT in the country.

The idea is to form the so parallela RED-CACT-Uina Dominicans will have institutional membership programs and organizations that support Cacts, and the commonwealth-CACT-Dominicans who brings in a large social network all / as the / as / operators as energizing / as informediadores / as of the centers across the country
Joining Efforts to achieve community development through community access centers to ICTs (Cacts) held in the Region Enriquillo.

The Cacts centers are defined as nonprofit, access and use of ICTs for development comuniatrio. Training Centers are Information Technology, Community Technology Centres, Telecentres Youth Information Centres, POULTRY, Community Information Centres, Telecentres Community School, Library with Internet access, etc.

Program "Unlimited Potential" Microsoft supports new project "Center of Excellence ...."

The "Center of Excellence for the sustainability and social impact of technology centers in the South West" seek to capitalize, with operator training programs / as technology centers and networks of mutual support, the large investment by public and private initiatives that have been installed throughout the region, many access centers and technology and contribute to sustainable development of communities in the southwest of the Dominican Republic. The project was defined from a recent study by the National Statistics Office and the Foundation Taigüey on the operation of community access centers, which included a survey of 357 community centers established by the state,

He worked to convert the Community Telecentre Swamp Guanaba.net of Barahona, a training center (in all operational aspects) and ongoing support to managers and operators of telecentres in the region southwest of the Dominican Republic. It is the second time, the Foundation Taigüey is selected from many proposals to receive financial support of the "Unlimited Potential" by Microsoft.

First donation in 2005 allowed us to develop the Technology Center Guanaba.Net rural community of La Cienaga, located 20 miles south of Barahona, jumped giant invisible but, when inserted in the digital age, thus opening a potential significant social and economic transformation, with support from Microsoft Unlimited Potential Program, INDOTEL, the Peace Corps, community groups and experts / ace of great renown who have participated as volunteers ...

The training modules for call center managers, operators and facilitators:

  • Telecentre design and planning and community mobilization around this.
  • Business plans and strategies for sustainability.
  • How to design your own manual (and application) that includes all aspects of management, organization, accounting and finance, maintenance, pricing, user policies, empowerment of users, etc..
  • Basic maintenance of hardware and software "front line".
  • Selection and management of software and tools for the center (for management and user / as).
  • Promotion and social marketing.

Also prepare curriculum materials for training end users, and training of trainers on applied uses of ICTs, such as:

  • Strategic Uses of Community Development.
  • ICT for formal and nonformal education.
  • ICT for micro-enterprises and management of organizations.
  • ICT for Health and Youth.
  • ICTs for local governance and citizen participation.
  • ICT for the environment and local information systems (including GIS).
  • Web portal development and the production of multimedia content
  • (Audio / radio, video, CD).
  • Measuring the impact of ICT in the community.

They seek to strengthen the Technology Centers, or Community Access Centres of Technology, in order that they have greater sustainability and social impact on communities.

It intends to develop a Web portal and content-specific resources to support the daily work of managers, trainers and operators of call centers in the southwest region, probalememente part of the new site of CACT-Dominican community
