As part of the celebration of the regional event Multisectoral Network Caribbean ICT Stakeholders (CIVIC 2.0) , which organizes Taigüey Foundation with its partners CARISNET, we invite you to participate in a meeting with key stakeholders in the development and promotion of the Information Society in the Caribbean. Our goal is to show the spaces and existing regional processes of dialogue and action that have been forged to build the information society in the Caribbean.

As part of the celebration of the regional event Multisectoral Network Caribbean ICT Stakeholders (CIVIC 2.0), we invite you to participate in a meeting with key stakeholders in the development and promotion of Information Society in the Caribbean. Our goal is to show the spaces and existing regional processes of dialogue and action that have been forged to build the information society in the Caribbean.
We believe it is of particular importance, the inclusion of Dominican players in the Caribbean spaces of dialogue and multisectoral collaboration, bringing together government agencies and regional organizations, civil society, academia and the private sector.
Following the presentations we will have a welcome cocktail for CIVIC participants and attendees at the conference in the Spanish Courtyard UNIBE as an opportunity to know better.

This meeting is organized and sponsored by the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications, as an institution that presides over the National Commission for Information Society and Knowledge (CNSIC), the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) and Multisectoral Network Actors Caribbean ICT (CIVIC) under CIVIC 2.0 event organized with financial support from the International Center for Development Research (IDRC, Canada).
What is CIVIC?
The Virtual Community Caribbean ICT stakeholders (CIVIC) is a virtual network regional multi-sectoral groups around 300 members / ace. It involves individuals from all sectors (government, international cooperation, academia, NGOs, civil society, regional organizations, businesses, etc..) That have an interest in promoting the use of ICTs for development in the region. Existence since November 2002 and has been active as a permanent mechanism for the exchange of knowledge to carry out thematic discussions, promote regional projects and take collective positions in the Caribbean in global forums (such as the World Summit on Information Society) .
CIVIC 2.0 event. will be held from 11 to November 14, 2008 in Juan Dolio, a new phase of CIVIC and has three main components: (a) "Consultation CIVIC" that contribute to the development of a 2-3 year strategic plan of the CIVIC community to meet the challenges in the field of ICTs for development in the Caribbean (as best public policy advocacy, better production of knowledge, enhanced project management TICpD more regional ICT cooperation projects, etc.) (b) Two-day training seminar TICpD policy design, (c) A training day management of thematic channels in the new Web 2.0 platform CIVIC.

What is the RIST?
The ICT Steering Committee (Regional ICT Steering Committee) is promoted by the General Secretariat of the CARICOM / CARIFORUM which aims to coordinate efforts for the design of public policies and initiatives. Works in the following areas: capacity building, access and infrastructure, ICT and Youth, Creating regional partnerships, legal and regulatory framework, public-private partnerships, improvement of productivity and efficiency, application and use of ICT in small and medium-sized islands Caribbean e-Trade Facilitation and Application of ICT for disaster recovery. Existence since 2004.
What is CTU?
The CTU was established in 1989 by leaders of the CARICOM member governments to streamline the framework of telecommunications policies for the region and address the problems of regional incompatibilities of the frequency spectrum. Recently, the CTU has emerged as the primary facilitator for the creation of policies for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the Caribbean and the biggest contributor to the development of ICT capacity within the region.
