UNESCO approves project support strategic ownership of multimedia technologies for non-formal education of youth at risk and production of content for the Web 2.0 community development Ciénaga
October 30, 2008
We report today from the headquarters of UNESCO, which has been selected for the project implementation we sent in February called "strategic ownership of multimedia technologies for non-formal education of youth at risk and production of content for the Web 2.0 community development Swamp "which aims to integrate / marginalized young people / community as the process of digital inclusion through the development and systematization of a process of non-formal youth at risk for the development of applications and content Web 2.0 to enable the use of technologies for development. This project will be very interesting!
The project will be developed in the town of La Ciénaga, prov. Barahona, south of the Dominican Republic. It lasts 12 months and will be implemented by the Foundation Taigüey articulated with the project "Digital Inclusion City La Ciénaga" through Guanaba.net Community Telecentre, single point of Internet access throughout the municipality.
The project aims to contribute to realizing the potential of the telecentre, accompanied by a process of appropriation through the development of applications that allow the use of technology as a development tool (developed by young people) facilitating access to information based on local needs, the production and dissemination of local information and the establishment of channels of information exchange, serving implicitly means of strengthening local cultural identity. Similarly aims to develop training processes aimed at young people, not recreate the school environment and which promote the self-study and building skills for labor market insertion.

Justification of the project proposal
The high school dropout rate of young people, and the lack of sources of employment in the municipality and the strategic location for drug trafficking (part of it is introduced by the Republic of Haiti and introduced by the coast), place youth in vulnerable situations and risk (of violence, gangs, drugs, sexual diseases).
The project aims to develop training processes, not recreate the school environment (which have dropped), and which promote the self-study and building skills for labor market insertion. To attract / as in the Telecentre and into the learning processes, these must be constructed from attractive themes and activities for youth such as music, graphics, video, audio, etc..
At present there is still a limited view of the use of ICT by / as community / as understood, in many cases, as an end in itself, as a mere tool of leisure as a means "to the / young people do their homework. " Which results in the exclusion of self / community as / as and waste of this tool to contribute to local development to see it as "something" alien to the realities and find concrete applications that can help meet your needs .
The project aims to follow a process of appropriation through the development of applications that allow the use of technology as a development tool (developed by young people) facilitating access to information based on local needs, production and dissemination of local information and the establishment of channels of information exchange, serving implicitly means of strengthening local cultural identity. When it will focus on the language, content, patterns of production and use of content, services and applications need to respond to local educational standards, practicality to and needs identified by the community.
The project starts from the premise that access to computers and the Internet alone do not make the development is not just a problem of access to technology but of social engineering that enables empowerment / as actors / actresses for a significant transformation. There use to systematize, raise awareness of the potential, accompanying people to meet their needs, and develop applications "meaningful".
