CAPS REPORT ON THE JAMAICA NETWORK (Jacana) NETWORKING WORKSHOP Kingston, Jamaica - July 30 2009. The workshop Gathered There Were 27 Participants from 17 local telecenters / CAP sites across the island. The Objective of the workshop WAS the networking activity to Strengthen the CAP Among the Operators / managers, Within the framework of the Jachan, in order to enable peer to peer support permanent, Dissemination of best practices, tools and resources, to Strengthen the sustainability and Social Impact of the CAPS in the communities. It Was Organised by Jachan and ICT4DJamaica and Taigüey Foundation, in the framework of the ACT! IVATO project This workshop Organised thanks to the WAS Financial support of telecentre.org to program is a joint venture of the International Development Research Centre (Canada), the Swiss Development Corporation and the Microsoft Corporation.

On Thursday, April 16 saw the first Meeting-Workshop of the Centers for collective access to ICTs in the Region Enriquillo in the facilities of the South Youth Foundation, in Barahona under the coordination of the Technical Unit of the C National omission Information Society (CNSIC) of the Dominican Republic and the Foundation Taigüey. The meeting is part of the establishment of the National Network and the Dominican Cacts Community , which seeks to enhance the sustainability and social impact of technology centers, through joint capacity building, exchange of experiences, tools and best practices between managers and operators of the technology centers. The same was attended by 80 operators / managers as and / as Community Technology Centers (Cacts) promoted by INDOTEL, Secretary of Education and the Ministry of Youth in the provinces of Pedernales, Bahoruco, Barahona and Independencia. The "Center of Excellence for the sustainability and social impact of technology centers in the South West" seek to capitalize, with operator training programs / as technology centers and networks of mutual support, the large investment by public and private initiatives that have been installed throughout the region, many access centers and technology and contribute to sustainable development of communities in the southwest of the Dominican Republic. On Monday, November 17 was held the workshop "Sustainability Initiatives Collective Access to ICTs in the Dominican Republic" with the objective to "analyze and share among the various governmental and nongovernmental organizations in the Dominican Republic to promote community access initiatives to ICT lessons learned, best practices, work methods, resources used, the impact of such initiatives in the communities and the challenges to ensure sustainability of these initiatives and increase their social impact in the development human communities and their inhabitants. In March we traveled to Lima, Peru to participate in a workshop organized by the Peruvian Center for Social Studies - CEPES to discuss and review the planning and goals of the project "Assistance Service call center operations.". This project seeks to develop capacities of telecentre managers, strengthening them as actors working to promote development and networking. After the workshop decided to establish a cooperation agreement between the project "Assistance Service call center operations" of the project CEPES and ACT! With a workshop CarISnet Consortium partners in Jamaica (March 16-17) CarISnet Starts Project 2, subtitled "Integrating and Strengthening the TICpD actors in the Caribbean, unleash the transformative potential of ICTs in the region." The overall project objective is to contribute to social and economic development in the Caribbean region, by strengthening the capacities of the / as local stakeholders for regional collaborative action TICpD critical initiatives in the Caribbean. Before concluding, the project was able to establish bases and develop a work plan for the consolidation of the Caribbean Virtual Community ICT actors (CIVIC) as a regional mechanism to promote knowledge sharing, capacity building and collaboration among actors Caribbean ICT .. To ivate / participants of the first Conference of the Network of Telecentres in Jamaica (Jamaica Conference Community Multimedia Centre ) . The project aims to Act! Ivate is to build and sustain the inner workings of the Alliance of Caribbean Community Telecentres (ACT!) viewed as a framework to share and promote regional cooperation among Caribbean telecentres.
